Last weekend, I spent my Saturday on the beautiful North Shore of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. As many people from around the Ohio Valley know, it was the West Virginia at Pitt football game. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to secure a ticket to the game, so a bar near Acrisure Stadium was the next best option. I thought.
After work at PNC Park, I strolled over to McFadden’s Restaurant and Saloon with some friends, all of whom are Pitt fans. I knew that I made a mistake the second I walked in the door.
No A/C. No room to move. No chance to eat. $7 and a 10 minute wait for a beer. All surrounded by Pitt fans as a Mountaineer fan.
Now, obviously this was a massive game and everyone and their mother was out, and it didn’t help my experience that WVU lost the game.
Nonetheless, I still don’t understand why people rave about going to a bar to watch a sporting event for the reasons I listed above.
I would much rather spend my football Saturdays in the Pine Room, or even my room alone, where I can eat, drink, sleep, etc. whenever I want for a fraction of the price.
However, even after all this complaining and an awful West Virginia loss, I still had fun, had a lot to drink, and was with my friends so I guess it wasn’t a complete failure of a day.
But I still don’t know why people would rather go to a bar and watch a game instead of the comfort of their own home. Who knows, maybe I’m just a loser.
Love you all,
Jarrett
