As a kid, I liked
Halloween but it was never something that I got extremely pumped for but the
older I got, the holiday seemed to become more of a focal point. When the wifey
and I were dating and had our first apartment, yes living in sin, the true Catholic
way, is when Halloween became a staple for us. We truly enjoyed seeing all the
young bucks dressed in their costumes, interacting and slinging them some
candy. I was able to turn it into an adult event with some adult beverages and
having friends come hang out while we enjoyed the evening.
When we married, had
Luke and moved to our current home on the Ave, is when our game stepped up. We
would have a neighborhood shindig with family and friends before trick or treat
started with plenty of food and drink. I would take Luke, who year in and year
out would be a ND football player and the wifey would stay back with whoever
would stick around. My buddy Jay would try and tackle the task of walking with
our beloved horse of a lab Marlee, who would eventually walk Jay. Another
friend, the infamous Weeks, Jay and I would grab some adult beverages and go on
our trek through the neighborhood.
Fast forward, no more
party, the wifey usually works and now even though Luke is a big ND homer is 19
and times have changed. Now he and I stay on the porch, I still have my adult
beverage and have now added a tasty cigar and greet all the young-ins dressed
in their favorite outfit for the night. This year was a blast, kids had some
great costumes but more importantly, 99.9% had great manners and showed
appreciation for what we placed in their bags. It was refreshing to see how the
kids acted and even though things have changed tremendously, Halloween is still
and always be fun at the Doyle household
